London Landmarks Half Marathon 2024 - ASPH Charity

I am running the London Landmarks Half Marathon 2024 on behalf of ASPH Charity, and any money that I raise will go towards dementia care, for example getting more sensory aides to assist patients, thank you for your generosity in sponsoring me.

My story

I am not in the best physical shape, and having a challenge like this to aim for will assist me in my physical health.

I lost my dad through Alzheimer's and seeing this cruel illness first hand was a heart breaking experience, let alone what it must have done to my dad. The great mind and person, and seeing a man who was such a great role model into a person he wasn't was a horrifying thing to see.

He died in December 2020 and the lockdown had a big impact on the community assistance he was provided with due to the restrictions in place, something which I found really difficult.

Seeing him suffering and losing him had a effect on me, and made my outlook on life change.

I will be 50 in June and whilst I am not going through a mid life crisis, I have decided to set some goals to reach by the time I'm 60. One of these goals is to raise money for a Alzheimer's related charity and to attempt a half marathon another goal.

Seeing the ballot to enter this through an internal email at work gave me the incentive to apply, and winning a place has made me even more determined.

I know that this will be a big challenge, I know that a half marathon is going to be difficult, after all 13.1 miles is a long way. However during the training and the event I will be thinking why I am taking part. And when I cross the finishing line, I will be thinking of all the money that people have generously given and the cause it will be going to.
